Action Alert: Make W Braddock Rd & N Howard St Safer!

Implement protected bike lanes and pedestrian safety improvements on West Braddock Rd between Crest St and Van Dorn S and on North Howard St between Seminary Rd and West Braddock Rd. These choices provide the maximum safety for students and citizens of all ages that live or travel in our City.

Level of Effort: 15 minutes in your pajamas
Deadline: July 3

Select “Strongly like” for Option 1 for both W Braddock Rd and N Howard St.

For Option 2, select “like” to rate it lower than Option 1 for both W Braddock Rd and N Howard St.

For Option 3 and Option 4, select “strongly dislike” to rate them lower than Options 1 and 2.

Protected bike lanes

  • Provide a consistent buffer for sidewalk users from traffic on both sides of the street compared
  • Provide more space for people biking than a cycletrack (also known as a two-way protected bike lane)
  • Are easier for people biking to enter or exit, especially the transition to sharing the street at ends of the project
  • Option 2 puts the cycletrack on the opposite side of the street of the Minnie Howard Campus, a key destination for riders, and requires riders to double back to access the building
    • Adding 68 parking spaces along W Braddock Rd does not align with the city’s plans and goals. The Minnie Howard Campus was only recently renovated without adding on-street parking, relying instead on 224 spaces on site (exceeding the city’s minimum by 45 spaces)
  • Option 3 requires westbound cyclists to cross the street twice at Kenwood Ave and Marlee Way, all to add 13 parking spaces adjacent to parking lots with 224 parking spaces
