Take Action Send a Message to City Council supporting a safer Duke Street for an All Ages – All abilities Bike Lane!
Our Ask: Since the Duke St/West Taylor Run/Cambridge Rd project already had public hearings at the Traffic & Parking Board in May and June, City Council will not hold a public comment period before the likely 12 November vote on the project. We need to let the City Council know we support the project too! Please write to City Council between now and November 11.

Suggested Feedback:
“Please vote to make the Duke St service road one-way to make the safest possible walking and bicycle route. Help make Duke St a safer place to walk, bike and use transit by voting for the one-way conversion!
- This is safety project requires a trade-off in convenience for a small number of drivers
- All our city’s plans: Climate plan, Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan, and Vision Zero plan support the FOUR MILE LONG walking and biking route connecting the new INOVA Hospital and the King St Metro that is in the Duke St in Motion (DSIM) project.
- The bike lanes will provide a buffer space from traffic for people walking on the narrow sidewalk, encouraging them to use the fast and frequent bus service.
- Forcing cyclists to ride in car traffic for 0.5 mile between Cambridge Rd and Hilton St to access the school, metro and businesses along Duke will discourage youth and adults who are interested but concerned about mixing with cars. Without the bike lanes, cyclists will have to ride through 100-200 drivers per peak hour that turn off of westbound Duke St onto West Taylor Run Pkwy.
- The Traffic & Parking Board supported both DSIM Bus lane and the Duke St service road conversion to one way (for the bike lane) after significant public testimony and written support.
