BPAC celebrates the holidays with annual ride and walk

Santa dinosaurs perched on roofs, a sidewalk tunnel festooned with green and red lights, an entire yard full of animal lanterns, a rainbow LED light show, flamingos pulling a sleigh, inflatable polar bears, and a giant holiday card declaring, “It’s PENGUINING to look a lot like Christmas” – these were just a few of the decorations we saw on the fifteenth annual Alexandria holiday lights ride and fifth annual holiday lights walk on Saturday, December 13. About seventy riders and fifty pedestrians (and three very good dogs!) marveled at the lights, oohed and aahed, and enjoyed the creativity, colors, and holiday spirit in Del Ray.

If you’d like to bike or walk the routes on your own, the biking route is here, and the walking route is here.

Here are a few photos from the ride and walk, courtesy of Casey Kane, Josephine Liu, and Cameron Taylor:

Thanks to all of the participants, the residents who put up such wonderful holiday decorations (we saw residents putting even more lights as we went by!), the people who cheered us on as the groups walked or biked past, and especially the volunteers who kept this tradition going strong for another year. Happy holidays, everyone!
